The FBE type fire dampers are designed for preventing the spreading of fire and smoke in the ducting system.
They are resistant to fire for minimum 120 minutes. These dampers are equipped with 72ºC fusible links. When the temperature in the duct reaches 72ºC, the link breaks and the spring-loaded mechanism activates the two butterfly-shaped blade parts. On request, it is possible to use fusible links for different temperatures. It is required that the ducts that involve this damper have an access cover to check and reach the fusible link. Intumescent strips are present at three places: inside the body, in line with the closed blades; at the meeting line of the two blade parts; and outside the damper body. After the blades close, the intumescent strips expand and fill the gaps between the blades and the inside of the damper body. On the other hand, the strip outside the damper body expands and fills the gap between the damper and the duct. One side of the blades is covered with a sponge sheet to isolate the gaps until the intumescent strip expands. The damper is installed by simply pushing it inside a round duct. A neoprene peripheral gasket holds the damper inside the duct. FBE fire dampers are manufactured in four different diameters from 125 to 200 mm. A pair of steel springs prevent the closed blades from re-opening. To replace the fusible link, these springs must be flexed to release the blades, then the new fusible link is placed between the brackets on the blades.
